Daem Celestine

Daem Celestin is a current 3rd-year medical student at the David Geffen School of Medicine. She was born in Haiti but has spent most of her life on the East Coast. Even as a child, she could see the inequalities when comparing Brockton to neighboring towns, and even more so when comparing the experiences of Black residents to that of different races. It highlighted the unique struggles of being low-income, Black, and an immigrant. As she continued to secondary education at Northeastern University, she knew these were the communities she needed to give back to. She spent four years volunteering at a local community center, United South End Settlements, became a peer mentor and also led a group of global health volunteers to Haiti. Since starting at DGSOM Daem has served as the SNMA Vice President and Speaker Chair of the 2022 Minority Health Conference. She is also a mentor for CODEMED, a small holistic medical student-led mentoring group focused on supporting and guiding Black students in their premedical journey. Daem hopes to use her platform to empower and care for Black women. In hopes of achieving this goal, she started a TikTok page dedicated to supporting and encouraging premed students, especially those identifying as first-generation, and from low-income backgrounds. She makes videos centered around her journey to medical school and her life as a medical student. Through these avenues, she hopes to sow back into the communities that have supported and uplifted her. Her specialties of interest include in Emergency medicine, OBGYN and Family medicine.
