Allison Gabriella Leggett

Allison Gabriella Leggett is a graduate of the Charles R. Drew/UCLA Medical Education program. She has completed her masters in Bioinformatics at UCLA and is currently in a local residency program. Growing up in Los Angeles, she was very aware of the health disparities that affected underserved communities—and how essentially your zip code and access to healthcare, education, and nutritious foods could determine your health. At an early age, this experience established the foundations and ardor for both intellectual pursuit and social justice. During undergrad, she attended Loyola Marymount University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Sciences—earning the title of program scholar for graduating at the top of her class’ major. Throughout college, she served as a community leader and active citizen—dedicating 800 hours as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician, organizing advocacy events exploring food justice through Oxfam America, volunteering at community clinics through the Venice Family Clinic, establishing a scholarship to fund social justice initiatives through the Center for Service and Action, serving as Vice President of both the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS) and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and leading service trips to both Haiti and Nicaragua exploring public health on a global scale. She remained an active member of the Honors Program during her three years at the university and was awarded a Presidential Citation for outstanding academic achievements, community leadership, and service. Through these experiences, she realized the importance of educating herself about the many historical and present barriers faced by underserved communities and the intersectionality of issues affecting health—including wage gaps, gentrification, mass incarceration, and unemployment rates. She aspires to utilize this information to serve as a better advocate for future patients, both inside and outside the clinical setting and a catalyst for change in the care of our most marginalized communities. As a future healthcare leader, she is committed to a career in advocacy, health equity, and social justice. Your investment will not only allow her to continue to work in this capacity but also provide her with the opportunity to extend the brilliant legacy of Dr. Lacey E. Wyatt in healthcare.
