Dr. Kathleen Brown is an academic radiologist committed to excellence in patient care, teaching and clinical research. She is a Professor of Radiology and Vice Chair of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Department of Radiological Sciences and Assistant Dean of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Her commitment to diversity and inclusion allows her to have a role in collective efforts to advance institutional climate and culture, and to impact health care disparities.

Dr. Brown is active in medical student and resident education. She was honored to receive the DGSOM Excellence in Education Award in 2010 and the Serge and Yvette Dadone Clinical Teaching Award in 2018, “in recognition of outstanding dedication, innovation and sustained excellence in education”.

Dr. Brown holds memberships in the Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, American College of Radiology, Society of Thoracic Radiologists, Los Angeles Radiological Society, National Medical Association (NMA), and the Section on Radiology and Radiation Oncology of the NMA. Dr. Brown previously served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Radiology. In 2012, she was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.

Dr. Brown previously served on the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) Thoracic Committee and the ACR Appropriateness Criteria Expert Panel on Thoracic Imaging. Her interest in diversity and health care disparities was demonstrated by her membership on the ACRIN Special Populations Committee, comprised of ACRIN researchers, research associates, and advocate committed to improving diversity in participation in clinical trials in the United States. 

Dr. Brown is a past President of the Association of Black Women Physicians (ABWP), an organized network of Black Women Physicians committed to the improvement of public health and welfare. She played a pivotal role in securing grant funds for the ABWP Breast Health Education and Screening Outreach Project. She is the Past Chair of the Section on Radiology and Radiation Oncology of the NMA, an organization with a mission to serve as “a leading force for parity in medicine, elimination of health disparities and promotion of optimal health”.

Dr. Brown’s research interests include interstitial lung disease and lung cancer screening.
